| What other names does this drug have? Paraplatin What does it look like? A clear fluid. How is it given? Intravenous (IV) infusion. How does it work? Carboplatin is a platinating agent that inhibits DNA replication, RNA transcription, and protein synthesis. Are there any precautions? The child should be given extra fluids to prevent possible kidney toxicity What are the common side effects? Low blood counts (myelosuppression) Nausea and vomiting Loss of appetite (anorexia) Altered taste What are the infrequent side effects?
