Alex's Roller Coaster Ride

Alex was diagnosed in April 2002, just before his 4th birthday, with a Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma (JPA) brain tumour.  It is located in the optic chiasm and hypothalamic region, extending into the midbrain, right temporal lobe, and right frontal lobe.

Gracie was diagnosed in Summer 2002, aged 9 months,  with a highly malignant primitive neuroectodermal tumour (PNET), on the optic nerves.  PNETs are extremely uncommon in this part of the brain.
